Winter Wellbeing: Slow Down, Move & Make Time For You

2 min read

As the days get shorter and the evenings darker, it’s natural to feel like our energy changes too.

But instead of fighting it, what if we worked with it?

We’re often surrounded by messages telling us to do more, exercise harder and keep pushing. But looking after our health and wellbeing isn’t always about doing more.

Sometimes we need to slow things down.

🍂 Changing how we move

Movement doesn’t always have to mean a hard workout.

Walking, stretching, mobility work, Pilates and strength training are all great ways to keep our bodies moving, while also giving us a chance to slow down and reconnect with how we’re feeling.

As we move through midlife, this becomes even more important. Our bodies change, our energy can fluctuate and stress, sleep and hormones can all affect how we feel.

Learning to adapt rather than simply push through can make a huge difference.

🍂 Making time for ourselves

This was one of the reasons I created my Autumn Equinox Wellbeing Evening.

We enjoyed Fitness Pilates, talked about our health and wellbeing and finished with time to relax.

The feedback was amazing, with everyone rating the evening 5/5. What I loved most was seeing a group of women simply taking a couple of hours out of busy lives to do something for themselves.

No pressure. No competition. Just movement, conversation and relaxation.

❄️And now we move into winter…

Winter can be a time when motivation dips. It’s colder, darker and sometimes the sofa looks far more appealing than putting on our trainers!

And that’s OK.

Rather than aiming for perfection, think about the small things you can continue doing to look after yourself.

A walk outside.

Ten minutes of movement.

A little strength training.

Getting to bed earlier.

Making time to relax.

Meeting a friend for a coffee and a chat.

Small things really do add up.

Following the lovely response to my Autumn evening, I’m now bringing everyone together again for a Winter Wellbeing Evening — another opportunity to move, relax and take a little time for ourselves before the busy Christmas period.

Because looking after yourself doesn’t have to mean changing everything.

Sometimes it simply means giving yourself permission to slow down. ❤️
